Bed and Breakfast Accommodation and Guest House, Appleby, Cumbria, Eden Valley, UK
Traditional 17th C Westmorland Longhouse.
North End Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast in the quiet village of Bolton, centrally located in the beautiful Eden Valley, is situated just 10 minutes from Appleby in Westmorland, the ancient county town of Westmorland and home to the famous 'Horse Fair' held annually in June.
Our guesthouse is a traditional Westmorland longhouse recently refurbished to provide very spacious and luxurious en suite accommodation with baths and showers and comfortable sofas and armchairs. Guests are welcomed with afternoon tea and home- made cakes served either in the large guest lounge, garden or garden room. Breakfasts and dinners are prepared using as much as possible local ingredients and for which Cumbria is highly renowned. Guests are invited to take meals in the garden room overlooking the splendid Pennine scenery and Cross Fell and Dufton Pike in particular. At sunrise and sunset these hills can provide a dramatic ever-changing tapestry of colour as reflected light and shadows gradually move over the slopes.
The large guest lounge with a log-burning stove in the inglenook provides a comfortable retreat for guests wishing to relax with a book and a glass of wine or just intending to plan the following day's excursion.
If you want to combine a break or holiday to take in the grandeur of the north Lakes and North Pennines but staying in a tranquil and almost remote area of Cumbria then do choose to come to North End in the Eden Valley. Within 30 minutes drive you can be walking in the Pennines, Lake District, N.Yorkshire Moors or the Howgill Fells. However if historic market towns, beautiful villages and dramatic upland scenery with local walks are to your taste then just remain within the Eden Valley. The River Eden rising above the Mallerstang Valley provides many peaceful riverside walks as it travels the 70 miles through Eden to the Solway Firth. You will find red sandstone gorges, caves and very often can incorporate a trip on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway with a linear walk along the valley. We have a large selection of maps and guides for use by our visitors and will be very pleased to plan walks or trips upon request. Leisure pursuits abound with walking and cycling activities, wildlife parks and open farms, and the option to explore the rich history of the area with visits to historic homes, castles and museums.
We are also strategically located just off the A66 / M6 Junction 40 for those visitors who require an overnight stay while travelling between Scotland, N.Ireland and the South.
